This study examines factors that explain the creation of university spin-offs. The study focuses on mechanisms that technology transfer offices (TTOs) and universities employ to foster spin-offs. These mechanisms include technology transfer activities that support spin-offs, normative frameworks, support infrastructures (i.e., business incubators and science parks), and TTO staff's specialist technical skills. The analysis also differentiates between public and private universities. Abstract This study examines whether the performance of biotechnology research spin-offs in Spain differs from non spin-off firms, using empirically-based fieldwork over a 5-year period and standard dichotomous regression analysis on 7-year data. Biotechnology research spin-offs in Spain are not necessarily located in core regions, are smaller in size and tend to grow faster in terms of turnover. Corporate groups seldom control them but venture capitalists have a greater tendency to acquire shareholdings in them. Impact of Electrical Stress and Neutron Irradiation on Reliability of Silicon Carbide Power MOSFET

International audience; The combined effects of electrical stress and neutron irradiation of the last generation of commercial discrete silicon carbide power MOSFETs are studied. The single-event burnout (SEB) sensitivity during neutron irradiation is analyzed for unstressed and electrically stressed devices. For surviving devices, a comprehensive study of the breakdown voltage degradation is performed by coupling the electrical stress and irradiation effects. In addition, mutual influences between electrical stress and radiative constraints are investigated through TCAD modeling.

There is a lack of in-depth studies on how technology transfer organizations (TTOs) are organized and developed. This paper examines the evolution/institutionalization of TTOs in Tsinghua University (TU), as a microcosm of the development of TTOs in Chinese universities. It explores two issues in particular: what kinds of TTOs have been developed in TU and why some organizational forms become more institutionalised than others. Abstract Reverse electrodialysis technology has grown significantly in the last decade, gaining a fast increase in its technology readiness level and presenting some interesting examples of pilot systems operating under very different real environments. Among these, one was able to operate in a saltwork in Marsala (Sicily, Italy) with real concentrated brine and real saline waters (i.e., either seawater or brackish water), producing electric power in the order of 1 kW.
